11/28 – 12/1 | Performance Audit: A Step-By-Step Guide to the Yellow Book

To sign up for this training, please fill out the following form: https://forms.office.com/g/CxZiM6t6XY

The Institute of Internal Auditors and the Government Auditing Standards give us some guidance, but don’t lay out a step-by-step approach. In this comprehensive 4-day class, we will go over a logical step-by-step approach to conducting a performance audit on any subject matter against any given criteria.

We’ll use an interesting, relevant case study to tie it all together. Frequent references to standards will keep us grounded and compliant.

4 day on-site seminar. From Tuesday, November 28th to Friday, December 1st.

Course Objectives include:

  • Describe what the GAO has to say about performance audits
  • Differentiate between performance audits, financial audits and attestation engagements
  • Create an auditable and interesting audit objective
  • Breakdown a broad audit subject to determine the scope of your audit
  • Use a simple risk assessment model that considers inherent and control risk
  • Identify common inherent risks and document risk rationales
  • Document your audit risk assessment and keep it up-to-date throughout the audit
  • Build the elements of a finding as you perform the audit risk assessment
  • Apply the latest version of the COSO model and Green Book to the control risk assessment
  • Document your understanding and assessment of internal controls in compliance with the 2021 Yellow Book
  • Distinguish between monitoring, control environment controls, and control activities
  • Choose and strengthen key internal controls
  • Choose strong, convincing audit methodologies including tests of fact and tests of controls
  • Write evidence-based findings using the five elements of a finding
  • Document results and justify conclusions
  • Assess and respond to fraud risks
